AquilaUSA shall immediately replace or refund at no extra cost any faulty strings (false or broken), if notified of the problem immediately upon installation of the strings. There is no guarantee of satisfaction with the acoustical characteristics of Aquila standard or custom-made strings if they are not materially defective, but I will make every effort to ensure that you are happy with your purchase.

PLEASE READ: For many years we have made string calculations without charge, but now we are receiving requests for calculations that do not result in purchases so we now must now charge for this service. The charge for each calculation without a subsequent string purchase from us is $20.00. If a purchase is made from the calculations we make totals more than $20.00, the calculations are gratis. If the purchase total is less than $20.00, $20.00 is the total. Requests for calculations must be paid in advance through Paypal or by check. Please be very clear about what needs to be calculated. There is a link to a free string gauge calculator on the links page, and we recommend that players do their own calculations as it is good to know how to make them, and also to understand the effects of tension. We are happy to advise about tensions for players making their own calculations, but we are not equipped to teach people how to use the calculator. Thanks for your understanding in this matter.

Please remember the absolute importance of the correct setting of the tailpiece, bridge, and sound post in bowed instruments. When installing gut strings for the first time on violin family instruments that have modern components, fine tuners on the tailpiece, if installed, must be removed. If unsure about this, please consult a luthier. A good luthier can often make a major difference in the sound and playability of your instrument. I offer two recommendations on the Links page.

EQUIVALENT PLAIN GUT DIAMETER
To assist in making gauge and tension calculations, Aquila has numbered Type D wound Nylgut strings with a letter following a number that indicates the equivalent diameter of a plain gut string. For example, "140D" stands for a copper wound/multifilament Nylgut string (indicated by the letter "D") corresponding to a plain gut string 1.40 mm in diameter. The actual diameter of the wound string is much smaller but under playing conditions it will have the same working tension as a plain gut string of 1.40 mm diameter tuned to the same pitch. When calculating for Type D wound strings using the Wadsworth or Wikla calculator, select the 'gut' setting and order the Type D string of the same number. A metric caliper can be used for direct measurement of plain gut and Nylgut strings as their part numbers correspond to their actual diameters.

DELIVERY
Orders from stock normally are shipped within 24 hours. Special orders, such as lengths or diameters outside normal stock may require more than 45 days for delivery. All domestic orders are shipped via First Class U.S. Mail. For international orders U.S. Mail Global Priority will be used unless otherwise requested. Please inquire.

Occasionally I am away from the office for a week or more as I am a working musician. If you make an inquiry other than on a weekend, and don't hear from me within 24 hours it is probably because I am away, and I will respond as soon as I can.
